1. Non-Profit & Government Career Fair 2008 ***TODAY

The Non-Profit & Government Career Fair offers a wonderful opportunity for all students, regardless of major or year in school, to meet with representatives from various non-profit and governmental agencies.
The Fair is open to all graduate and undergraduate UIUC students seeking full-time, part-time, internship, summer or volunteer positions. Students are encouraged to come out to learn about the wide variety of degrees and experiences that these organizations are seeking. This Fair provides insight into the competitive salaries and the opportunities for professional growth and career advancement with non-profit and governmental agencies.

2. No Career Services Walk-In Advising, March 18 & 19
The Graduate College Career Services Office offers advice on application materials, career exploration, networking, interviewing, and the job search process. Students are encouraged to drop by during walk-in hours (Tuesday & Wednesday mornings, 9-11:45 a.m.) to visit with a counselor on a first-come, first served basis.
Regular Career Services Walk-in Hours are suspended during Spring Break. Regular walk-in schedule will resume on March 24.
3. RESCHEDULED: "How to Find a Job Outside Academia.Even if you Aren't Sure That You Want One"

Susan Basalla, co-author of 'So What Are You Going to Do With That?': Finding Careers Outside Academia, will talk about the challenges and opportunities for advanced-degree holders. The first 200 graduate students to arrive to Dr. Basalla's talk will receive a FREE copy of her book, www.press.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/hfs.cgi/00/222067.ctl.
Basalla earned her Ph.D. in English from Princeton University and worked in journalism and new media for six years before joining Art & Science Group, a consulting firm focused on higher education, in 2004. She has been a regular contributor to the Chronicle of Higher Education's "Beyond the Ivory Tower" column since 2002. Read her most recent article:

6. Employment Authorization Opportunities for International Students

Assistant Director Emma Swift from the Office of International Student and Scholar Services will discuss employment authorization opportunities available to UIUC international students. This workshop will give overview information on OPT and CPT work authorizations as well as information about how to apply.

8. THE GRADUATE COLLEGE CAREER SERVICES OFFICE
The Graduate College Career Services Office (GCCSO) assists University of Illinois graduate students with decision making and planning for career paths both within and beyond the academy. It is a centralized resource for graduate students from all disciplines, with services focused especially on the needs of graduate students in the humanities, the social sciences, the fine arts, and other areas in which students are not presently served by dedicated, discipline-based career services offices.
