Interviewing Skills for Academic Jobs

This workshop is designed to help graduate students perform well in academic interviews. We will discuss general interview questions, strategies for preparation and self-presentation, recommendations about how to respond to tough questions, and topics to avoid. This workshop is free to all UIUC graduate students. No registration required.
Job Search in Consulting Workshop

Consulting firms regularly recruit PhDs from a wide range of disciplines. This workshop covers job search strategies and provides information about how to begin and organize the job search, what strategies are most effective, how to research organizations, and where to find other helpful resources. This workshop is free to all UIUC graduate students. No registration required.

Bring your CV to Espresso Royale in the basement of the Undergraduate Library for a free, confidential critique! Graduate College staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide advice on formatting, content, and delivery, as well as answer questions on cover letters and the job search process. If you will be finished with your studies in 2008 you should apply for a permanent position by the deadline above. Medical interns, residents and fellows finishing in 2009 may also apply now, for a permanent position, to receive an early decision. Those finishing studies in 2009 may apply for an internship by December 10, 2007. All others finishing their program at a later date are welcome to attend and learn more for the future. If you will not be applying now, you may register at the same website; registrants will receive e-mails about upcoming events and opportunities.

The Graduate College Career Services Office
The Graduate College Career Services Office (GCCSO) assists University of Illinois graduate students with decision making and planning for career paths both within and beyond the academy. It is a centralized resource for graduate students from all disciplines, with services focused especially on the needs of graduate students in the humanities, the social sciences, the fine arts, and other areas in which students are not presently served by dedicated, discipline-based career services offices.
