The HDF Group, formerly of NCSA, is a non-profit corporation located in the South Campus
Research Park. We have an opening for an hourly student or other part-time programmer (10-20
hours/week) to do software development work related to scientific data management on Hierarchical
Data Format (HDF) for the rest of the fall 2009 semester and 2010 spring semester. Continued
employment into the summer and subsequent academic years is possible.
HDF is a file format and a set of library routines and utilities for storing, accessing and visualizing
scientific information. HDF is widely used in the scientific community. It is the standard format for
NASA's Earth Observing System, one of the largest data management projects in existence. HDF
software supports many computing platforms, including most UNIX workstations and clusters,
Windows and Macintosh. The primary clientele for HDF includes programmers, engineers and
scientists from a wide range of disciplines. Visit

America Reads/America Counts Hourly - 10-18 percent

 The America Reads/America Counts Program places undergraduate students in early, elementary and middle schools, and an Adult Learning Center to help students develop and improve their reading and mathematic skills.  The America Reads/America Counts Graduate Coordinators are responsible for overseeing the activities in the school settings and supervising the undergraduate tutors.  In addition to the public schools, tutoring sites include several after-school programs at community sites throughout Champaign and Urbana.  The Graduate Coordinators serve as liaisons between the tutors, staff at the tutoring sites, and the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) to ensure compliance to rules and smooth operation of the program.

ATLAS Graduate Assistantship - 50% percent

The ATLAS learning technology consultant will help and orient instructors and students to use supported learning technologies in LAS courses. Technologies include course management systems, portfolio systems, conferencing systems, web publishing, etc. Help will be provided in the form of face-to-face workshops, by email and by live chat/conference.

National Center for Supercomputer Applications Research Assistantship - 50% Research Assistantship (NCSA) percent

The Computational Medicine Group of the National Center for Supercomputer Applications is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to design, implement, and test modules for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science Cyberenvironment (Web Portal Developer). The work will focus on extending and implementing functionalities in already existing Open Source environments.

Illinois State Water Survey Research Assistantship - 50 percent

Duties will include some programming, data processing and running numerical simulations with hydrological, hydraulic, and water quality models.
