Fellowships
Fellowships provide a stipend with no expectation of service in return. A traineeship is a research fellowship that is awarded to provide educational training in a particular disciplinary area. Most fellows also receive coverage of tuition and selected fees. Institutional fellowships may be awarded by the graduate program or the University (upon nomination by a graduate program) In addition, there are a number of external fellowships for which students may apply directly.
Campus Fellowship Policies
The policies related to holding a fellowship or traineeship are outlined in the Graduate College Handbook at www.grad.illinois.edu/gradhandbook.
