Subject:
2009-2010 FEDERAL WORK-STUDY GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS
Attached is the packet of materials for the 2009-2010 Federal Work-Study (FWS) program for graduate assistantships. The packet includes the Guidelines, the Appointment Request Form and a Student Information Sheet. We ask that you carefully re¬view the information included in this letter and the attachments. Please provide the Student Information Sheet to all interested students in your program, particularly those for whom you intend to submit an Appointment Request Form.
To request a FWS graduate assistantship for 2009-2010, programs should submit a completed FWS Graduate Assistantship Appointment Request Form for each student being considered for a FWS graduate assistantship to the Office of Student Financial Aid no later than April 15, 2009. FWS graduate assistantship appointment requests carry a "pending availability of funds" notice, and therefore should not be communicated as a firm commitment by the appointing unit unless the unit is willing to fully fund the assistantship should FWS funds not be available.
Note: Campus tuition waiver policy applies to FWS assistantship appointments. It is the student’s curriculum that determines the type of waiver, not the unit granting the assistantship. A unit considering appointing a student to a FWS assistantship is strongly advised to check that student's curriculum both for the type of tuition waiver that will be granted and for the possibility that reimbursement for the tuition waiver might be sought. The full campus policy can be found at "Guide to the Tuition Waiver Policy".
General questions about FWS graduate assistantships may be directed to the Graduate College Fellowship Office (333-0036, drichie@illinois.edu). Specific questions about a student's eligibility for FWS may be directed to LaVonne Novakofski, Office of Student Financial Aid (244-3789, novakofs@illinois.edu).
